About FWP > Councils & Committees Montana State Shooting Facilities and Improvements Development and Oversight Task Force

The 69th Montana Legislature passed House Bill 899 (HB899), which created the Montana State Shooting Facilities and Improvements Development and Oversight Task Force. The Task Force is responsible for identifying shooting facility needs in Montana. This may include improving existing facilities or developing new ones. The Task Force will meet as often as necessary to accomplish its assignment on time.


The Task Force shall:

  • develop a framework to select locations for Montana state shooting facilities and improvements;

  • review all shooting facilities in the region and develop preliminary specifications, plans, and features for Montana state shooting facilities and improvements;

  • develop a request for proposals so that local governments, private sector entities, or a combination of both may submit proposals to be considered for the location of Montana state shooting facilities or improvements; and

  • make recommendations for the development, location, and administrative structure of the Montana state shooting facilities and improvements to the governor; the joint appropriations subcommittee on natural resources and transportation; the joint fish, wildlife, and parks committee; and the economic affairs interim committee. Recommendations will be submitted by June 30, 2027.


Task Force Meetings

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will coordinate and facilitate meetings for the Task Force and administer the appropriation for the purposes described in HB899.

When: Dec. 18 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Where: Montana WILD (2668 Broadwater Avenue, Helena, MT 59602) and via Zoom

The public will have the opportunity to provide comments in person and over Zoom.
